International markets
Markets and exchange venues
Québec’s cultural industry players have a strong presence on the international scene and are also very active in the international performing arts, film, book, museum and visual arts markets.
An array of events, both in Québec and abroad, allows producers, artists and artisans to share their expertise, ensure product distribution and develop joint projects.
Two major entertainment markets in particular stand out in Québec:
- The CINARS platform, organized by the International Exchange for the Performing Arts, is a biennial event in Montréal attended by hundreds of international presenters, artists and exhibitors from the world of dance, music, theatre and multidisciplinary arts.
- The Bourse RIDEAU is an annual event presented in Québec City by the Réseau indépendant des diffuseurs d’événements artistiques unis (independent network of united distributors of artistic events). It focuses primarily on showcasing the performing arts in Québec and also has an international component.
Other specialized events that foster international exchanges include: MEG Montréal Osheaga International (MMOI), M for Montréal, the Emerging Music Festival in Abitibi (FME), the Pop Montréal International Music Festival, Les FrancoFolies de Montréal, and many more. Similarly, Québec’s numerous festivals and cultural activities, ranging from book fairs to visual arts events, serve as venues for interaction between artists and producers.
Furthermore, delegations from Québec regularly attend major cultural industry events to showcase their productions and negotiate international agreements. WOMEX in Copenhagen, the Frankfurt Book Fair, the SXSW music and media conference and festival in Austin, Texas, and MIDEM in Cannes are among the events that come to mind.
