The Québec design abroad
Québec designers
The Québec design sector has made a name for itself internationally in the past few decades. You need only think of an emblematic designer like Michel Dallaire, who has created a number of designs that are representative of modern Québec in a career spanning over 4 decades. Most recently, he designed the Bixi bikes used in the bike sharing system that has been exported to countless other cities.
Today, Québec designers are making big impressions around the world. Here are a few examples:
- Francis Cayouette, the Québec designer who has created a number of furniture lines for Swedish giant Ikea.
- Sid Lee, a firm that began in the field of advertising but now also creates integrated designs for commercial spaces and delivers architectural and urban projects in Québec and abroad.
- Bluesponge, a firm whose projects have won international awards in France and the United States.
- Melissa Mongiat, a creator of interactive environments, whose work has been seen in England and recognized by Wallpaper magazine as one of the 10 most promising designers in the world.
Collective efforts are also being made to strengthen the use of design, architecture and other related services. One example of cooperative and promotional efforts is the Mission Design collective, which includes professional organizations from the various fields concerned.
