Interdisciplinary artists
Although the increase in interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary practices is a recent phenomenon, Québec has a tradition in interdisciplinary arts that was founded by its pioneers, who paved the way by combining and rethinking disciplines:
- Françoise Sullivan, who in 1948 signed the Total Refusal manifesto that defined modern art in Québec and made art that combined dance, painting, sculpture, and film starting in the end of the 40s.
- Michel Lemieux and Victor Pilon, active in 4D Art, whose shows combined elements of dance, music, video and innovative stage technologies starting in the beginning of the 80s.
Interdisciplinary artwork has become more and more frequent in the last two decades and included everything from street art and circus art to literature and installations. Some of these artists include:
- L’ATSA (Action terroriste socialement acceptable)
- Nathalie Derome et sa compagnie Des mots d’la dynamite
- Les Filles électriques
- Kondition Pluriel
- Daniel Danis, arts/sciences
- Guy Laramée
