Tuition fees

The annual flat fees paid by foreign students enrolled in an undergraduate program at a Québec university are divided into two components: regulated and deregulated.

The deregulation of flat fees at the undergraduate (bachelor’s) level affects six academic disciplines: administration, computer science, engineering, law, mathematics and pure sciences. Regulated tuition fees for the 2011-2012 academic year

The tuition fees payable by foreign students enrolled in a Québec university are divided into three components: basic tuition, a flat fee and an optional fee:

Basic tuition: $72,26 per credit (1 credit corresponds to 45 hours of coursework or assignments)

Flat fee:

Undergraduate level (1st cycle):

  • $375,57 per credit for the “soft” disciplines: humanities, social sciences, geography, education, physical education and literature.
  • $427,02 per credit for the “hard” disciplines: dentistry, veterinary medicine, optometry, non-medical healthcare specializations, nursing, pharmacy, architecture and environmental design, agriculture, forestry, geodesy, fine arts, cinema, photography, music, medicine, medicine in residence.
Master’s level (2nd cycle): $375,57 per credit.

Doctoral level (3rd cycle): $330,54 per credit.

Optional fee: Québec universities may also require foreign students to pay an amount equivalent to 10% of the flat fee.

In addition to tuition fees, there are admission fees, registration fees, student services fees, fees for educational supplies, contributions to student associations and premiums for health/hospitalization insurance. Total premiums for health/hospitalization insurance are approximately $600 per year (two semesters).
