Education

School attendance in Québec is compulsory for all children between the ages of 6 and 16. The school year begins in late August or early September and generally ends before 24 June.

There are two school systems, one public and one private.

In the public education system, instruction is provided free of charge to all residents of Québec from kindergarten to college, inclusively.

The private education system is accredited by the government and also follows the official curriculum. Students must, however, pay tuition fees and meet the admission requirements of the schools concerned.

Tuition fees at the university level are among the lowest in North America.
