Prescription drug insurance
Québec’s general prescription drug insurance plan guarantees all citizens access to the medication required by their state of health. Participants make a financial contribution that depends on their individual situation.
The medicine cost can be met by:
- a private plan (such as a group plan or employee benefit plan);
- the public plan, administered by the Régie de l’assurance maladie du Québec (Québec health insurance board).
Citizens who are eligible for a private plan must join that plan; all other citizens must register for the public plan, if they are immigrants as soon as they arrive in Québec.
