Transport
Québec has roughly 185 000 km of highways. Car or bus travel from city to city is easy, and several bus companies offer services throughout the province.
Passenger rail services connect most of the main cities and regions within Québec and Canada. There is also a rail link from Montréal to New York, and a high-speed train from Montréal to Boston is currently under study.
Air travel obviously offers the shortest trip times. Although regular services cover major cities only, air travel also offers the only direct access to some remote, isolated regions in northern Québec.
The government is aware of the high cost of air travel for the inhabitants of outlying regions who require access to health care, educational, justice and administrative services, and it reimburses some of the cost in specific circumstances. The inhabitants of Nunavik receive government assistance for the transportation of goods.
