Cycle routes

Québec has several cycle routes, generally separating cyclists from other road vehicles. There is also a “green route”, a network of over 4 000 km of trails linking 16 regions and 320 municipalities throughout Québec.

Some cycle trails are reserved for cyclists, while others are also used by hikers and in-line skaters. Cycle trails have traffic signs and, where necessary, surface markings similar to road markings.

Cyclists may also use the far right section of most roads, except express highways. Car and truck drivers must be especially careful around cyclists, and cyclists in turn must comply with the Highway Safety Code. In the event of a collision with a vehicle on a public highway, a cyclist can report the damage and claim compensation.
