Institutions

Québec’s institutions can be divided into three groups: political, administrative and judicial.

The political institutions include the National Assembly, the Executive Council, the municipalities, and supra-municipal bodies such as the regional county municipalities, the Kativik Regional Government and the Commission municipale du Québec. Together, they represent the centres of power and decision-making in Québec.

The administrative institutions include the government departments and bodies and the components of the health care, education and public security systems, which together form the basic structure of Québec’s public administration.

The judicial institutions include the administrative tribunals, the civil and criminal courts, and other specialized courts, which hear and decide various types of cases and together are responsible for enforcing the law throughout Québec.
