The social dimension

In Québec, the circus arts have taken on a social dimension. Programs for the elderly and disadvantaged children use these arts to stimulate and bring these groups of people back into the social fabric.

In the mid 90s, Cirque du Soleil created the Cirque du Monde program, which allows marginalized youth in some 80 communities around the globe to learn circus arts in an effort to help them integrate into society.

Québec also participates in activities designed to promote the conservation of its circus arts heritage. A professional meeting of museum curators, collectors, circus representatives and other experts was held in 2010 in Montreal, in conjunction with the Fédération mondiale du cirque, En Piste and Cirque du Soleil.
