Interdisciplinary arts

Successful combinations

The creativity of the art world often allows it to blur the boundaries of specific disciplines and think outside the box. For some artists, mixing different disciplines, such as theatre and video, dance and digital arts, literature and performance, art and science, is at the very centre of their work. Although they often involve media arts, due to their technological components, interdisciplinary arts differ from media arts in that they tend to emphasize the presence of bodies and live performances.

In order to meet the vitality of these extraordinary creations and provide support to innovative projects, Québec has created specific initiatives and programs for multidisciplinary arts through the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. The artists, producers and distributors of these hybrid forms of art are also part of the Regroupement des arts interdisciplinaires du Québec (RAIQ), which was created in 2006. The RAIQ also works to encourage international exchange programs and develop interdisciplinary initiatives, such as by holding symposiums and events that are focused on the various aspects of these practices.
