Québec cinema
Through its originality and cutting edge topics, Québec cinema is gaining increasing recognition on the international scene. Filmmakers Frédéric Back and Denys Arcand have won Oscars in the past. This year, our films have won awards in Namur, Venice and Locarno. Denis Villeneuve’s “Incendies” as the only Canadian entry in the Best Foreign Language Film category of the Oscar Awards. Combine with Xavier Dolan’s ever growing popularity in France and elsewhere, this is living proof that our film industry is taking its rightful place and playing an influential role the world over.
