Financial assistance
The Programme de bourses d'excellence pour étudiants étrangers (academic scholarship program for foreign students) is designed to help support the internationalization of teaching and research activities in Québec’s universities. It is made available to university teaching and research faculty who wish to attract high-calibre foreign students, researchers and administrators. The program provides three kinds of scholarship:
Scholarships for doctoral-level research are awarded to foreign students for up to three years, on the basis of academic merit;
Scholarships for post-doctoral work are offered for one year to young foreign students who have held a doctorate for less than three years and who have recognized ability in scientific research;
Scholarships for short periods of research or study provide financial backing for the offers received by career researchers or administrators to continue or extend medium-term or long-term cooperation or projects for a maximum period of four months.
The program is offered by the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (Québec department of education, recreation and sports) and is managed by the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la nature et les technologies (Québec nature and technology research fund).
Eligibility
To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant’s file must be presented by a teacher or researcher at a Québec university. The final choice is made by the assessment and selection panels set up by the Fonds québécois de recherche sur la nature et les technologies.
