Québec and Canadian studies in the United States and Québec
Québec studies in the United States
With approximately 300 professors and researchers, the United States boasts the largest number of universities specializing in Québec in the world. Most are members of the American Council for Québec Studies (ACQS). Founded in 1982, the ACQS works to develop and promote Québec studies in the United States. It organizes a conference every two years and publishes the Québec Studies academic journal.
In 2004, the Québec government supported the creation of the first institute dedicated to Québec studies in the United States. Located at Plattsburgh State University of New York (SUNY-Plattsburgh), the Institute on Québec Studies specifically offers a minor in Québec studies and organizes many activities in an effort to promote Québec, such as the Distinguished Québec Address and the Québec Summer Seminar.
