Average housing cost

The cost of a house or apartment varies depending on the number of rooms, the city or neighbourhood where it is located, supply and demand, and proximity to various services. Housing is generally cheaper outside the main urban centres. Before deciding where you would like to settle, you should consider the advantages offered by various regions of Québec.

In 2004, in Québec, the average rental cost for a two-bedroom apartment (known in Québec as a “4½”: kitchen, living room, two bedrooms and a bathroom) was $572 per month (in Canadian dollars). However, the actual cost varies from city to city. In Trois-Rivières and Saguenay, for example, the average rental cost was around $458, compared to $596 in Québec City.
