Health insurance
Since November 1, 1970, every person who is a resident or temporary resident of Québec who meets the conditions prescribed by law must register for health insurance coverage.
The health insurance card contains the photograph and signature of the card holder, and is used to obtain the health care – medical and hospital services – covered by the Québec health insurance plan.
All immigrants to Québec can benefit from the health insurance plan after a maximum waiting period of three months after registering for coverage. Each member of a family has his or her own health insurance card.
