Anti-smoking legislation
May 31, 2006 marked the start of a new era in Québec, with improved air quality in public areas. This was the day on which the new provisions of the Tobacco Act came into effect concerning smoking in places such as bars, public houses and taverns, restaurants, bingo halls and shopping malls. The legislative amendments passed unanimously by the Members of the National Assembly on June 16, 2005 covered three main topics: smoking in public places, the sale of tobacco products, and the promotion and advertising of tobacco products.
