A general election will be held in Québec on September 4, 2012

Pursuant to an order of the Government of Québec, the Chief Electoral Officer must hold a general election in Québec on September 4 of this year. Here are some key dates of the election period:

- Issue of the order 

 

 

August 1, 2012

- Ban on election advertising

 

 

August 2 to 8, 2012

- Nomination papers 

 

 

August 3 at 2 p.m. to August 18, 2012, at 2 p.m.

- Revision of the list of electors 

 

 

August 13 to 21, 2012

- Special revision

 

 

August 22 to August 30, 2012, at 2 p.m.

- Advance polling 

 

 

August 26 and 27, 2012

- Voting at the office of the returning officer 

 

 

August 24, 25, 28, 29 and 30, 2012, until 2 p.m.

- Polling day

Because September 3 is a statutory holiday, polling, which is normally on a Monday, is postponed to Tuesday, September 4, as provided by the Election Act.
