Sustainable Development - A Societal Project for Québec
Québec has chosen the path of sustainable development by centring its plans around a law, 16 guiding principles, monitoring measures and indicators and a comprehensive strategy to be used by each of its government ministries and agencies in realizing their sustainable development action plans. Québec’s sustainable development plan is distinguished notably in the way it targets concerted government action, making it a true societal project. It has resulted in a sustained commitment on the part of numerous Québec institutions for more than twenty years and in a well-structured approach to the issue that was implemented starting in 2004.
