Role of the State

Several government agencies are involved in the Québec economy in different ways. The two organizations holding an economic mission are the ministère des Finances et de l'Économie, and Revenu Québec.

The ministère des Finances et de l'Économie advises the government on financial matters and fosters Québec’s economic development. Accordingly, as part of its role as a central organization, it advises the Minister and the government in the budgetary, fiscal, economic, financial and accounting fields.

The ministère supports Québec’s economic development, as well as research in the economic, scientific, social and cultural areas, in order to promote job creation, economic prosperity, scientific development and sustainable development. It conveys know-how abroad and ensures the continued success of our companies.

Lastly, Revenu Québec’s mission also includes involvement in the economic sector. It consists on administering taxation-related social programs, as well as any other tax-collection and redistribution program entrusted to it by the government. The Agency collects income tax and consumption taxes and ensures that each person pays a fair share of the financing of public services.
