Correctional Services
The ministère de la Sécurité publique has the duty to administer the provincial correctional facilities, ensure the availability of services of probation officers and to supervise the carrying out of probation orders and offenders reintegration.
In Canada, responsibility for corrections is divided between the federal and provincial governments. Quebec is responsible for offenders sentenced to terms of less than two years whereas the federal is responsible for offenders serving sentences of two years or longer (including life sentences).
